Heartland Doulas

The Power of Continuous Care

Testimonials

Quotes Kate and I have been friends for quite some time. When my husband and I got pregnant we weren't sure if we were going to have a doula present at our birth or not. We went through birthing classes with Kate and she was very flexible. My husband was going out of town for school for 2 months and we were able to work around everybody's schedule so we were able to do classes before and after and get everything done within a good time frame. The classes were very informative. Kate presented all the possibilities and worked with us on what our own personal birthplan would like look based off of what we wanted to do. Quotes

Quotes When the time came for our daughter's birth, Kate was over shortly after my husband called. Being our first, reassurance and support of the process of laboring was wonderful. Labor for me progressed very quickly and without the support of Kate and my husband, I don't think I would have had as good an outcome with an unmedicated vaginal birth as I did. Kate was there helping me with words of support and physical support as well as helping my husband to support me. One of the best gifts she gave us was a roll of pictures of our daughter's birth (tastefully done). She also gave us postpartum support when I was having difficulty breastfeeding and gave us further resources. I cannot place a price on Kate's services throughout our pregnancy and birth of our daughter. If I had a choice, I would do it all over again! Quotes

Quotes My husband and I took a birth class taught by Kate and she was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and supportive. She answered all our questions and provided great resources and advice. I don't think I (or my husband :-) would have been so prepared for childbirth without everything we learned in class. It empowered me to make decisions that were authentic and comfortable for me and in line with my values. Quotes

Quotes Kate attended the hospital birth of our second daughter and the homebirth of our son, and I only regret that we had not known of her services when our first daughter was born. I knew that I wanted to have as natural a hospital birth as possible (for our 2nd child) and would not have been able to do that without the support of a doula. Not only did Kate share so much more information about birth that we would have ever had access to or been able to gather on our own, but she supported both my husband and I throughout the pregnancy, during the actual birth and in the postpartum period. Even though we had already had our first child, her prenatal classes taught us so much about the birth process (yay for Rebozo sifting!!). She asked me questions that helped me make the best decisions for our family, myself, and the baby at every step of the way, and unfailingly supported every choice we made. Quotes

Quotes When the unthinkable happened, and our daughter suddenly died at 11 days, Kate continued to support our family by sharing local resources that were instrumental in our ability to grieve in the healthiest manner possible. She introduced us to "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" - a volunteer organization that arranges for photographers to take pictures of critically ill, stillborn, or recently passed children - gave me information about lactation after loss and helped me to arrange a local donation of breastmilk when I was ready. Moreover, she was able to help me process both the birth and the death of our child in a way that noone else could have. When we found out we were expecting our third child, she was the first person we called. I knew I would need her emotional support during the pregnancy just as much as I would need her physical support during the birth. We cannot recommend her services highly enough and consider our family blessed to count her as a friend. Quotes

Quotes My partner and I took Kate's Better Birth class, then fell in love with her and hired her as our Doula. As an educator, Kate is the best of the best. She taught us so much, even about things we didn't know that we didn't know! Of course she taught us about all of the physical stuff, but also the emotional stuff. There really is nothing that she didn't address! Pregnancy, diet and exercises, Birth, labor positions, spousal support, breastfeeding, hospital procedures, homebirth procedures, placenta encapsulation, PPD, and so much more! She was interested in my vision of my perfect birth, and taught me everything I would need to know to accomplish it! As a FTM, I felt confident in my body and in my ability to birth after taking her class! My partner learned that his role of support went beyond just holding my hand bed-side as I did all the hard stuff. Quotes

Quotes As a Doula, Kate was invaluable. She was there when I needed her, gently reminding me and my partner of the things we had learned. Reminding me that I was strong and capable, reminding him of ways to help. She gave foot rubs, back rubs, anything I needed. She didn't disappear after the baby was born. She met with us afterwards whenever we needed her. I really can't say enough good things about her, but am running out of room, so I will just say this: Kate is remarkable. I am so grateful that I had her wisdom and expertise to guide me through my journey to motherhood. I can't imagine what it would have been like without her! Quotes
